HOMER - The Banks County Sheriff's Office is continuing its war on illegal drugs.

This week, the department arrested 23-year-old Ashley Nichole Strickland of Norcross after a traffic investigation led to the discovery of 45 pounds of marijuana concealed in the trunk of her 2003 Ford Focus.

The information was released by Banks County Chief Deputy Shawn Wilson late Friday night.

"During a subsequent investigation, agents of the Appalachian Drug Task Force and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant of her residence in the Atlanta metro area, where another three pounds of marijuana were located," Wilson said.

Sheriff Carlton Speed praised the work of the deputies involved in the arrest.

"Again our deputies have shown their commitment to the citizens and children of Banks County by stopping drug dealers from delivering their cargo to our area," Speed said. "I cannot say enough how much I appreciate their dedication to our community and the sheriff's office."

Strickland's pre-school child was found inside the vehicle and was turned over to the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services.

Strickland, already on felony probation for prior drug violations, is being held in the Banks County Detention Center for trafficking marijuana.

No bond has been set.
