ROSWELL -- Just like a year ago, North Hall and Blessed Trinity will need a deciding Game 3 to determine who will stay alive in the Class AAA playoffs.

North Hall beat the Titans 6-4 in Game 1 but Blessed Trinity staved off elimination with a 5-0 victory in Game 2 of the two teams' doubleheader Wednesday.

Game 3 is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday at Blessed Trinity.

Solid starting pitching and timely hitting was the key to both games.

North Hall's Corbin Lewallen got the win for North Hall going six innings and allowing four runs on seven hits. Lewallen also had two hits, including a home run to help his own cause.

In Game 2, the Titans' Brad Spinner scattered five hits and struck out five in a complete-game effort. Blessed Trinity was able to finally get to North Hall's Brandon DeLong, who allowed six runs going the distance.

Game 1: North Hall 6, Blessed Trinity 4

Corbin Lewallen got the win and Andrew Smith pitched a scoreless seventh inning to get the save to lead the Trojans to the victory in the opening game.

Lewallen added a home run and Smith had three hits to pace the offense, which rallied from a 2-1 deficit.

Lewallen was sharp early for the Trojans keeping the Titans scoreless through three innings.

North Hall threatened in the top of the third inning loading the bases. But Blessed Trinity was able to get a ground out to end the inning.

Lewallen would get things started for the offense in the fourth with a leadoff home run for a 1-0 lead. The Titans answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a long home run by Conor Davis for a 2-1 lead.

The Trojans would come right back with three runs in the top of the fifth on a two-run single by Lincoln Hewett and a RBI single by Drew Atha to retake the lead 4-2. But again Blessed Trinity answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly and RBI single to tie the game at 4.

North Hall would keep the pressure on with two more runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Micah Strickland and Hewett's third RBI of the game for a 6-4 lead.

Smith would finish off the win but had to work around a pair of two-singles that brought the winning run to the plate.

Game 2: Blessed Trinity 6, North Hall 0

Brandon DeLong got the start for the Trojans in the second game and worked out of trouble early but was able to keep the Titans off the board through the first three innings.

But Blessed Trinity would get all it needed in the fourth on a Jake Bogosian two-run single for a 2-0 lead. The Titans added a run later in the inning when Bronco O'Brien scored from third on a balk call for a 3-0 lead.

The Titans added a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Meanwhile, the North Hall offense could muster just two hits, one being a leadoff double by Smith, through the first four innings against Spinner.
