UNDATED - Governor Nathan Deal announced this afternoon that Georgia has been ranked as the most competitive state in the U.S. for 2013 by Site Selection Magazine.

The magazine releases a list of the most competitive states each May. Last year, Georgia was ranked third, and has been in the top ten since 2010.

Remaining competitive is key to staying ahead in the global marketplace," said Chris Carr, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, in a press release. "With critical factors such as a qualified workforce, solid logistics infrastructure and connections in key international markets, it's no surprise that Georgia outranks other states in this category and our state continues to be the best choice for industry-leading companies."

The decision is made based on 10 criteria, including, but not limited to, total number and capital investment in new and expanded facilities, new jobs created, state tax climate as ranked by the Tax Foundation. Georgia scored 426 points - 12 points higher than the winning state last year.
