That tradition continued Monday night, with the Rev. Brian T. Butler, pastor of Clarkesville First United Methodist Church, providing the invocation.
After the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance, Councilman Franklin Brown commented on Monday's 5-4 Supreme Court decision upholding prayers that open town council meetings as constitutional.
"They said that there's nothing wrong with us saying prayer," Brown said. "I'm glad - we've been doing it anyway."
Clarkesville City Attorney Janney Sanders said the ruling puts the issue to rest - at least for now.
