Golf: Area teams play through sectionals, advance to state

A number of area prep golf teams went searching for a spot in state championship tournaments on Monday via state sectional tournaments -- and a number of them made played their way into the finals.

The North Hall and White County boys were among those to make it through, each firing a team score of 326 at Sunset Country Club in Moultrie.

The Johnson girls also advanced to the Class AAAA championship, finishing sixth at the sectional tournament held at Bull Creek Golf Course in Columbus on Monday.

Sophomore, Jenny Barrett led the Lady Knights with a 96, while Kristin Waters fired a 101, and freshman Madison Stewart also carded a 122.

Johnson will play in the state championships at Waynesboro Golf Course in Waynesboro on May 19.

All championship tournaments will take place on May 19 at different courses throughout the Augusta area.
