Currently ranked fourth in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NCAA Division II Poll, UNG has a record of 43-9 and stands atop the final Southeast regional poll.
Traveling to Dahlonega this weekend will also be 4th-seeded Wingate University, 5th-seeded Lenior-Rhyne University and the 8th-seeded University of Mount Olive.
Wingate and Lenoir-Ryne will represent the South Atlantic Conference as at-large selections. SAC Tournament runner-up Wingate is fourth in the final regional rankings, followed by conference co-champion Lenoir-Rhyne at No. 5. Wingate is 36-18 overall, while L-R has a 39-13 overall mark and is ranked 24th in the nation.
Mount Olive enters the regional after capturing the automatic bid out of the Conference Carolinas after winning their second consecutive conference championship. The Trojans have won 10 consecutive games to even their overall record at 24-24.
Second-seeded Anderson University will host the other Southeast Regional in Anderson, S.C. with three Peach Belt Conference schools in 3rd-seeded Armstrong Atlantic, 6th-seeded USC Aiken (32-14) and 7th-seeded Georgia College (34-15).
The winners of the two Southeast regionals will meet at the highest remaining seed on May 16-17 in a Super Regional with the Division II Championship on May 22-26 at Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va.
The double-elimination tournament will start on Friday in Dahlonega, with Wingate and Lenior-Rhyne getting started at 4:00 p.m, to be followed by the Nighthawks and Mount Olive at 6:30 p.m.
There will be a total of six games played guaranteed, with the possibility of a seventh if necessary. Tickets will be $8 for adults and $5 for students. Children under the age of 3 will be admitted free. Tournament passes will also be sold for $20 for adults and $10 for students.
