JEFFERSON -- The season came to a stunning end for Jefferson Friday in the first round of the Class AA state playoffs.

The Dragon came in ranked No. 1 in Class AA but ran into a solid Greater Atlanta Christian team that was able to pull off the upset taking a 3-1 victory in Game 1 and then getting a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth to win Game 2 7-6.

In Game 1, Jefferson led 1-0 heading into the sixth inning after getting a RBI ground out from Micah Carpenter in the third inning. But GAC got a two-run single from Justin Lewis in the sixth to take a 2-1 lead.

The Spartans added a run in the seventh for a 3-1 lead. Jefferson got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh but could not cash in.

Max Ford took the loss in Game 1 allowing three runs on nine hits in a complete-game effort.

In Game 2, Jefferson again jumped out to the early lead in the first on a RBI hit from Ford and a sacrifice fly by Hannon Price. GAC, however, answered with a run in the second and two in the third to take the lead.

The Dragons retook the lead 5-3 in the fifth on a two-run double from Andy Nicolaus. But the Spartans reclaimed the lead 6-5 with three runs in the sixth.

Jefferson tied the game in the seventh on another RBI double from Nicolaus but Lewis would give GAC the series sweep with a solo home run in the eighth.

Ethan Garner took the hard-lcuk loss for Jefferson.

The Dragons finished the season 21-5 and as Region 8-AA champs.
