ALBANY -- Jenna Gearing decided that silver was just not her color this year -- not in the 1,600.

The White County distance standout claimed her second gold medal of the weekend on Friday when she claimed the Class AAA 1,600 championship at the GHSA girls track and field championships in Albany.

Gearing, who won the 3,200 on Thursday, just missed out on the double crown last season but ensured there would be no second place performance this time around in the 1,600, crossing the finish line in 5 minutes, 05.89 seconds -- almost two seconds ahead of Blessed Trinity's Anna Gandolfo, who also finished second in the 3,200.

The sophomore's sterling performance was part of another big day for northeast Georgia's athletes at the three-day event, as a number of other area standouts also placed and won points for their team.

The Class AAA 1,600 also featured a fourth place finish for Banks County's Makayla Hewell (5:24.35), a seventh place finish for North Hall's Makayla Ellis (5:29.71) and eighth place for Buford's Bailey Roberts (5:30.28).

Meanwhile, Commerce's Madison Rodriguez took second place in the Class A public 1,600 finals (6:13.66).

In Class AA, Union County's Emma Garrison finished fifth (5:23.29).

Flowery Branch's Alisha Parks took fourth place in the Class AAAAA discus with a throw of 114-feet-7.

The rest of the day's best finishes went to Commerce. The Lady Tigers pushed their way into third place in the Class A public standings with seven top eight finishes during the day -- led by Rodriguez's finish in the 1,600.

Cameron Hawkins earned fifth in the triple jump (31-10.5) and sixth in the long jump (15-4.25), while Lily Mathers took fourth in the high jump (4-10), followed by Sydney McClure in sixth (4-8). The discus saw Anna Flint take fifth (96-11) and Rachel Floyd finish seventh (93-8).
