JEFFERSON - Two juveniles have been arrested in two separate school bomb threat cases from this week, according to Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum.

While declining to discuss either case in detail, citing continuing investigations, the sheriff said a female juvenile has been charged with terroristic threats and disruption of a public school in connection with a Wednesday incident at East Jackson Comprehensive High School near Commerce. The student is accused of writing a threatening message in a bathroom stall at the school.

In addition, an 11-year-old male student was arrested Friday for a similar incident at West Jackson Middle School. A written threat was discovered Friday in a restroom at the school. Mangum said it is possible there will be more arrests in the West Jackson Middle School case.

In both incidents, students from the schools were evacuated while law enforcement searched school property. In both case, the bombs threats turned out to be hoaxes.

Mangum said she did not expect to release more information on the cases before Monday or Tuesday of next week.

In addition to the incidents at East Jackson High School and West Jackson Middle School, Maysville Elementary School was evacuated Thursday when a possible threat was found scrawled on a bathroom stall. Mangum said that it appeared a child wrote the message in that incident.

Similar threats occurred this week at Jefferson Middle School and Apalachee High School. Jefferson City Police and the Barrow County Sheriff's Department are handling those investigations in their respective jurisdictions.
