GAINESVILLE - Hall County Fire Services has been awarded a North American Safe Boating Campaign Support Grant totaling $1,500. It provides resources for basic personal flotation devices (PFDs) in the amount of $1,300 and $200 for printed materials.

"Hall County Fire Services is grateful for these funds in support of the water safety programs conducted by fire department personnel," said Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell.

The resources will be used during "park parties" that will take place at different public parks on Lake Lanier during the summer.

The first is scheduled Saturday, May 17, at Van Pugh Day Use Park (North) on Gaines Ferry Road from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. It marks the national "Ready, Set, Wear It" event promoting the use of life jackets. Fire apparatus, boats and jet skis will also be on display as part of the event.
