DAHLONEGA - A father has allegedly shot his adult son in East Lumpkin County.

According to Sheriff's Lt. Wesley Burnette, authorities responded to a call and found the 54-year-old son, shot in the head, in the roadway.

"He was treated by EMS and then transported to the hospital, where he still is at this point," said Burnette.

Burnette said the father, who is 83, was in the home, which is off of Highway 52 East, when authorities arrived.

"There was some issues getting in touch with him at first," said Burnette. "He is elderly and he does have a hard time hearing, but we did make contact with him and through some of the family speaking with him, he did come out and was placed into custody and under arrest without any further incident."

Burnette said the father was charged with aggravated assault and was out on bond.

No identities have been released as the investigation continues, and a motive has not yet been determined.
