Fox Five reports that the Buford School System and Legion have been in negotiations over the property for a year and a half. According to the TV station, both sides have appraised the land, including ball fields the city leases.
Post Commander Steve Adams told Fox Five he worries it could go to eminent domain.
"Once they do this thing Monday, it's out of our hands. It goes through eminent domain, and they have that right if they're going to build a park or a school here."
In a statement to Fox Five, school system superintendent Dr. Geye Hamby said, "The district prefers to purchase the property it needs and hopes to reach an amicable resolution with the Legion, while reserving the option of eminent domain. The agenda item on Monday night's board meeting is one step in this process but does not condemn the property."
Post members have met at the site since 1948.
"We're at home here, and the community knows it," Adams told Fox 5.
