Baseball: Gainesville closes regular season with dominating win

ATHENS -- The Gainesville baseball team closed out its regular season in style on Thursday, ripping Cedar Shoals 11-1 in Athens.

Sam Carpenter earned the win the mound, tossing five innings while allowing just three hits and striking out eight.

Drew Satterfield led the Red Elephants (20-6) at the plate, recording three hits and four RBI, while Anthony Carrera had a double, a home run and five RBI. Michael Gettys also had a hit and an RBI, and Sims Griffith recorded two hits. Luke Maddox, Caleb Whitenton and Mikey Gonzalez also had one hit apiece.

Gainesville, which is the No. 1 seed from Region 8-AAAAA, awaits the No. 4 seed from Region 6-AAAAA and will play a best-of-three series, starting with a doubleheader on May 2.
