JEFFERSON - Work is gearing up in Jefferson on rebuilding the intersection of State Rout 15 Alternate and State Route 82, creating a one-way pair of parallel streets along Kissam and Storey streets, building a new bridge over Big Curry Creek and building a new multi-use trail in Big Curry Creek Park.

Georgia DOT officials say materials, equipment and supplies are being delivered to the site beginning today. Within the week, clearing the work area of vegetation will begin if weather cooperates.

This $6.9 million contract was awarded to Pittman Construction Company of Conyers. The project completion date is August 31, 2016.

DOT says the existing bridge over Curry Creek was built in 1929 and does not meet current design standards.
