CHATSWORTH, Ga. (AP) Sheriff's officials in northwest Georgia say one of the department's drug dogs bit a deputy on his face while he was trying to snap a selfie.

Murray County sheriff's Maj. Greg Fowler tells the Dalton Daily Citizen that the deputy was sitting near a department drug dog after serving warrants Monday and put his arm around the dog's neck while he tried taking a photo with it.

Fowler says the dog interpreted the deputy's arm around its neck as an act of aggression and responded based on what was taught during training. Fowler says the dog bit the deputy near his lips, and the deputy's wounds were stitched at the Hamilton Medical Center.

Fowler says the dog hadn't bitten anyone before and officials are reviewing the incident.
