BUFORD -- Buford used a six-run second inning to blow open a close game and then cruised to an 11-3 win over North Hall Tuesday in Region 7-AAA action.

The win officially clinched the region title and top seed in Region 7-AAA in the upcoming Class AAA playoffs.

"Our goal was to treat this week like a playoff week," Buford coach Tony Wolfe said. "We had four games against the top four teams and wanted to step up to the challenge and play well heading into the playoffs. I feel real good with how we've played the first two games."

North Hall jumped out to a quick 2-0 in the top of the first when Andrew Smith singled to open the game and then later scored on a wild pitch. McCoy Savage was hit by a pitch and would later score on a steal of home.

The Wolves answered back in the bottom of the inning when Nick Wilhite blasted a three-run home run. Buford blew it open in the second, highlighted by a three-run home run from Austin Upshaw.

Buford added two more runs in the fourth on RBI hits from Jake Mayo and Hunter Puckett.

"We have been swinging the bats well and if can get the kind of production at the plate to go with our pitching and defense I like our chances," Wolfe said.

North Hall cut the lead to 11-3 on a bases loaded walk in the sixth.

Kevin Coulter got the win for Buford (22-1, 18-1 Region 7-AAA) surrendering six hits and walking three in 5 1/3 innings.

Drew Coker took the loss for North Hall allowing nine runs in 1 1/3 innings. Smith pitched the final 4 2/3 innings allowing just two runs.

Buford next will travel to White County on Wednesday.
