Habersham's 'Most Wanted' captured in Tennessee

CLARKESVILLE - Two Habersham County officers are expected to arrive in Tennessee today to pick up a wanted Habersham County man.

Sheriff Joey Terrell said law enforcement officers in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., arrested 41-year-old James Len Ramey of Clarkesville on Habersham County warrants.

"I don't know the particulars on how they got him," Terrell said. "I believe it was a traffic stop and he gave them false information. The officers kept digging until they figured out - somehow they ended up calling Stephens County Sheriff's Office, who referred them to us."

Terrell said Habersham County officers sent Tennessee authorities a photograph of Ramey "to verify who he was."

"They arrested him on our warrants, and we placed a hold," Terrell said. "They're not going to have any charges because they just had giving false information, so they just want to get rid of him."

Terrell said Ramey still faces outstanding warrants he was served with before being released from a south Georgia prison without facing those charges.

Those charges include two counts of theft by receiving stolen property, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, three counts of illegal possession of a controlled substance, drug trafficking, reckless driving, felony fleeing police or roadblock, obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers, and two counts of aggravated assault.

Terrell said the state prison system won't provide him with answers on how and why Ramey was released without notification to Habersham County.

Now, Terrell said he will rest better knowing Ramey is in custody.

"The last time we got him U.S. Marshals had to get him and there was a chase involved, and every time we've gotten after him he's run," Terrell said. "It weighs heavy that some innocent individual is going to get killed because he had no regard for anybody on the road."
