Gainesville posted a 295 team score in the rain Friday and followed up with a 291 on Saturday for a 10-over-par 586 total, besting 18 other teams to claim their seventh tournament of the year and their third consecutive NGHS Invitational title.
Gainesville finished seven strokes ahead of second place Easley (S.C.) High School. Rounding out the top 5 was Alpharetta (595), Columbus (600) and Lambert (601).
Red Elephants sophomore Spencer Ralston won the individual title with a two-day total of 3-under 141 (71-70), finishing two shots in front of Drew Minner of Alpharetta. Gainesville placed four players in the top 16. Nathan Williams was 11th with a 147 total (73-74), Grant Lasseter 14th with a 148 (76-72) and Lawson King 16th with a 150 (75-75). Jackson Bishop 153 (78-75) and Drew Lasseter 162 (79-83) rounded out the Red Elephants' scoring.
Gainesville's next tournament will be Thursday when the Red Elephants host the Region 8-AAAAA Championships at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville.
