BRASELTON - Braselton Mayor Bill Orr presented a special proclamation to Teresa Simms on the occasion of her 100th birthday recently.

Simms, a New York native, worked as a nurse for twenty-six years and is now retired to Braselton near her family. The proclamation cited the noted aspects of her life and of 1914 with the onset of World War I, the opening of the Panama Canal and the first season for a baseball rookie, Babe Ruth.

"She now joins an elite society of American centenarians, the largest of its kind in the world, which doubled in number during recent decades," Orr said. "The Town salutes and commemorates a century of a good and faithful servant."
