Tennis: Chestatee tennis teams advance to state in 8-AAAA tourney

DANIELSVILLE -- Both the Chestatee boys and girls tennis teams secured spots in the Class AAAA state tournament with wins in the first round of the Region 8-AAAA tournament at Madison County Wednesday.

The Chestatee boys took a 3-0 win over Eastside.

Reed Johnson and Austin Passmore led things off for the War Eagles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Logan Gruenenfelder and Ethan Kapiloff also won in convincing fashion, 6-1, 6-2 in the other doubles match. Junior Tyler Burgess, playing at No. 1 singles, won 6-3, 6-2 to seal the win for Chestatee.

The War Eagles will play host Madison County Thursday at 11 a.m. in the semifinals.

The Lady War Eagles also advanced with a 3-0 win over Eastside in the girls tournament.

Juniors Haley King and Grace Brown continued their undefeated season-long run of not dropping a set, with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Chestatee's No. 1 singles player, Lily Kiang, won 6-2, 7-5 and Adasery Osorno clinched the team victory with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.

Chestatee next will take on Lumpkin County in the semifinals at 11 a.m. Thursday.
