OAKWOOD -- The Johnson boys soccer team clinched one of its preseason goals on Tuesday courtesy a 5-1 defeat of Madison County.

The win, coupled with Lanier's loss to Lumpkin County, meant the second-ranked Knights (15-0, 7-0 Region 8-AAAA) clinched the Region 8-AAAA championship with one region game remaining.

Barut Perez bagged three goals to lead Johnson on Tuesday, while Luis Deltoro added two strikes and two assists; Perez also assisted, as did Fabian Abarca.

The Knights dominated the contest, out-shooting Madison County 28-5 -- the visitor's lone goal came from a penalty kick.

Johnson will play host to arch-rival Gainesville on Friday in a non-region but hugely anticipated showdown.
