U.S. Department of Agriculture officials said in a letter Monday to the Georgia Department of Human Services that the state has reduced its case backlog, but there were still more than 3,328 overdue Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program applications as of April 8 which is out of compliance with federal regulations.
USDA officials say they'll suspend up to $15 million in administrative funding by May 14 if the state doesn't show that it's in compliance with federal regulations, or submit a revised corrective action plan including the date Georgia will be in compliance with federal guidelines.
Georgia DHS Commissioner Keith Horton said in a statement that the department is making progress.
