GAINESVILLE - The driver who hit two Chicopee Woods Elementary School students Monday afternoon and then fled the scene has been caught.

Megan Daniels of Dahlonega was caught by Gainesville Police and the K-9 unit after she fled the scene of the hit and run and has since been arrested, according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Jonathan Munger.

"A white Ford Explorer, 1994 model, was driving on Hancock Avenue Extension [and] there was a school bus stop that was letting kids get off the bus," said Munger. "At that time, the Ford Explorer improperly passed the school bus and struck two kids, I think they were seven and nine."

Hall County School System spokesman Gordon Higgins said the car went through bus 2005's stop signal and hit the children around 3:00 p.m.

The vehicle was found crashed down an embankment about 15 to 20 minutes later near Allen Creek Soccer Complex, according to Munger.

Higgins said a female student was knocked to the ground in the incident and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center to be checked out.

A second student, a boy, suffered an injury to his arm, but didn't require transport to the hospital.

Higgins said parents of both children were notified and responded to the scene.
