COMMERCE - Police say a small plane headed to Gainesville made an emergency landing on a highway near Commerce Sunday morning.

Commerce Police Chief John Gaissert told local media outlets four people were aboard the Cessna plane on Sunday morning when it landed on a stretch of U.S. 441 about 20 miles north of Athens.

Authorities say the plane was en route to Gainesville from Charleston, S.C. when the pilot noticed an intermittent loss of power and decided to make an emergency landing instead of heading for the Jackson County Airport. No injuries were reported.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution the incident is under investigation.
