The Board of Regents is the 19-member governing body for the University System of Georgia (USG) and its 31 member institutions. The board holds most of its monthly meetings at the USG offices in Atlanta, but schedules a couple of meetings each year on campuses of its member institutions.
"We are very excited to welcome the Board of Regents to our campuses and we look forward to showcasing the strengths of our university," said UNG President Bonita Jacobs. "During the two days of meetings, we will underscore that UNG, which is positioned in the most rapidly growing region of the state, is made up of four campuses united by a single mission focused on academic excellence and developing students into leaders for a diverse and global society."
UNG and its students, faculty, staff, and facilities will be featured throughout the two days. The Board of Regents will hold its business meetings in the Library Technology Center.
Monday afternoon, UNG student ambassadors and cadets will welcome the guests at hotels. On Monday evening, prior to the official start of the meeting, regents, USG staff and guests will attend a reception and dinner hosted by Regent Philip and Mrs. Mary Hart Wilheit at the student center on UNG's Gainesville Campus. The Wilheits are from Gainesville and Philip Wilheit is chairman of the board of regents. The group will be treated to a driving tour of that campus and the UNG Jazz Combo will perform during the reception.
Tuesday morning, the Blue Ridge Rifles will perform a brief squad demonstration at the Brooks Pennington Jr. Military Leadership Center before the board meeting begins. Also on Tuesday, student leaders from UNG's four campuses will represent the university's students at a luncheon, where Cadet Chaplain Matthew McClure will present the invocation. The UNG Patriot Choir is scheduled to perform during Tuesday night's dinner.
While the meeting sessions are being held, spouses and guests of the USG and Board of Regents will learn about the community's history by visiting the Dahlonega Gold Museum and the Vickery House, home to UNG's Georgia Appalachian Studies Center.
