Baseball: Newton leads GHS to win over Clarke Central

GAINESVILLE -- Chandler Newton fanned four and allowed just two hits in a complete-game effort to lead the Gainesville baseball team to a 12-2, five-inning win over Clarke Central Wednesday at Ivey-Watson Field.

The Red Elephants (13-6, 7-2 Region 8-AAAAA) jumped on the Gladiators early with five runs in the first and seven in the second and then cruised to the victory.

Harrison Styles had two RBI and Michael Curry and Michael Gettys had one each for Gainesville.

The two teams will play again on Friday in Athens.
