ATHENS, Ga. (AP) University of Georgia police say they've determined that a student found dead in his dorm room in January died of an accidental drug overdose.

UGA police said in a statement Wednesday that 21-year-old David Peacock Braun of Marietta ingested a lethal dose of fentanyl.

Police described fentanyl is a narcotic pain reliever, and that many areas around the nation have seen an upswing in fentanyl-related overdoses.

Campus police had said in January that an autopsy failed to determine the cause of Braun's death, and that toxicology testing would be done to determine what was in his system. They announced the cause on Wednesday.
