DEMOREST - A Clarkesville man died of injuries from a wreck Saturday afternoon in the Fairview community of Habersham County.

The wreck happened at 4:54 p.m. on the north end of Riverbend Road, a short distance off Georgia Highway 105 (Cannon Bridge Road).

Forest Tecumseh Garrett, 21, was operating a 2004 Yamaha YZF R6 motorcycle that was attempting to pass a 2008 Nissan Altima "in a double-yellow, no-passing zone," said Trooper 1st Class Casey Coffee of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

That car was attempting to turn left into a private driveway. As the car attempted to turn left, it was struck in the driver's side by Garrett's motorcycle, Coffee said.

After impact, the motorcycle overturned and traveled off the south side of Riverbend Road, striking some landscape bushes, Coffee said. Both the motorcycle's occupants were ejected upon the initial impact.

Garrett was rushed by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Garrett's passenger, 23-year-old Kelli Nicole Campbell of Clarkesville, was seriously injured and was airlifted from the scene to Atlanta Medical Center.

After impact, the Nissan driven by 28-year-old Melissa Ann Wallace of Eastanollee traveled off the south side of Riverbend Road, striking a 9-1-1 sign post and several landscape bushes, Coffee said. Wallace was not taken for medical treatment.

Funeral arrangements for Garrett will be announced by Hillside Memorial Chapel and Gardens, Clarkesville.
