BATESVILLE - Firefighters have contained a massive woods fire in northern Habersham County.

Habersham County Fire Chief Jeff Cain said firefighters were called to the woods fire, located at the end of Goshen Mountain Road, around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Habersham County requested help from the Georgia Forestry Commission, then the U.S. Forest Service got involved. Several plows from Georgia Forestry and the USFS are on scene.

A tanker and lieutenant from Habersham County remain on scene. Brush trucks from Rabun and White counties also are assisting.

Cain said the fire is burning in the area of heavy storm debris on Goshen Mountain, and forestry personnel plan to let it burn to some 150-200 acres.
Fire breaks have been plowed around the fire, and personnel remain on the scene.

After a couple of structural exposure problems initially, there are about four houses on the back side of Goshen Mountain that currently have fire apparatus on scene as a precaution.
