ALTO - A Cornelia man faces charges after a wreck that concluded a police chase in Habersham County Friday night.

Matthew Scroggs, 30, wrecked the 2005 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle he was driving on Old Gainesville Highway just south of Crane Mill Road shortly after 7 p.m.

Trooper 1st Class Casey Coffee said Scroggs was fleeing from an Alto police unit. The pursuit was traveling southbound on Old Gainesville Highway.

As Scroggs attempted to turn left onto Garland White Road, the motorcycle overturned and traveled off the east side of Gainesville Highway, Coffee said. It came to an uncontrolled rest on it's left side facing east.

Scroggs, who was ejected, was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. He is charged by Alto police with fleeing, too fast for conditions, obscured tag, and failure to maintain control of vehicle (city ordinance).
