BUFORD - Prior to Friday's Region 7-AAA clash with White County, Buford baseball coach Tony Wolfe preached just one thing to his Class AAA No. 1-ranked team: focus.

And after a 10-0, five-inning rout of the Warriors, he got a sense of just how focused his Wolves can be.

Buford tallied 10 runs in the first three innings, providing hard-throwing ace Connor Bennett all the support he needed.

"Obviously Connor was totally in command on the mound, when we get a good outing on the mound and swing the bats a little bit things go well for us" Wolfe said.

Bennett dominated tossing a one-hitter and striking out 10.

Meanwhile, the Buford offense got going quickly. The Wolves scored three runs in the first, four in the second, and three in the third.

In the first inning, Nick Wilhite singled to lead off and scored on a RBI triple from Patrick Burnette one batter later. Joey Bart knocked in Burnette on a RBI ground out and Austin Upshaw, who walked, scored on a RBI single by Hunter Puckett for a 3-0 lead.

In the second the Wolves extended their lead to 7-0, highlighted by a RBI single by Nick Wilhite and scoring Kayden Berrett. Buford got three more runs in the inning off of two White County errors.

In the third, Burnette capped a three-run inning with a two-run home run to left for a 10-0 lead.

Bennett retired the final four batters to invoke the Mercy Rule in the fifth inning.

"This win bodes well for us going into spring break and gives us a lot to work with going into the second half of the season" Wolfe said.

With the win, Buford (16-0, 12-0 Region 7-AAA) boosted their lead over White County (13-4, 8-3) and solidified its hold on first place in the region.

Buford next will travel to Dawson County on Monday while White County will make the trek to West Hall in Region 7-AAA action.
