GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Board of Education Thursday approved Superintendent Will Schofield's recommendation to hire Matthew Cox to become part of the school system's Facilities Operations.

Cox will replace the current Executive Director of Facilities and Maintenance Damon Gibbs who is leaving to become Superintendent of Schools in Dawson County. Gibbs was announced last week as the sole finalist for the Dawson County position and is expected to be on the job by the end of this month.

Cox, who has American Institute of Architects (AIA) Certification, brings 25 years of experience, with a high concentration in K-12 education facilities, to the Hall County School District (HCSD). He has a long relationship with the school system, which includes eleven years as primary client contact and 18 years overall.

School officials say these experiences have given Cox current knowledge of HCSD
existing building inventory, procedures, and expectations for design/construction. His recent list of projects for HCSD include the North Hall High School STEM Program (2013), Jones Elementary School Renovations and Modifications (2012), and East Hall High School Kitchen Replacement (2010).

Also Thursday, the board approved Schofield's recommendation to hire Jamey Moore, announced earlier this week, as principal of North Hall High School to replace the retiring Joe Gheesling.
