DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia Spring Planetarium Show this year spotlights Mars and a lunar eclipse. It will be held Fridays at 8:00 April 4-June 27 at the Coleman Planetarium on the Dahlonega campus.

Mars is appearing in the evening sky this month and on the night of April 14-15 it will be at its closest distance to Earth for the next two years. That same night the first visible total lunar eclipse in north Georgia since 2011 will be visible, weather permitting, starting at 3:42 a.m. This will be just the first of a rare grouping of four consecutive lunar eclipses. The show will also feature the Jupiter and Saturn and the Spring and Winter Constellations.

Doors open for this free event at 7:30 and if the sky is clear the Observatory will be open following the show for telescope viewing.

The planetarium is located in Room 234 of the Health & Natural Sciences Building one block west of the main UNG campus on Sunset Drive.

For more information: [email protected]
