WINDER -- Gainesville baseball returned to region play with a bang on Monday, cranking out three home runs to get the best of an 18-12 slugfest over Winder-Barrow in Winder.

The Red Elephants (10-5, 4-1 Region 8-AAAAA) racked up 18 hits in the win over the Bulldoggs, including two homers for Michael Curry, who put up four RBI on the night. Michael Gettys also cranked a home run, as well as a double to finish with three RBI.

Sims Griffith was also zeroed in, notching four hits and two RBI, while Caleb Whitenton managed three hits and an RBI.

Drew Satterfield and Drew Wright also had two hits apiece, and Luke Maddox, Harrison Styles and Anthony Carerra also had one hit each.

Sam Carpenter picked up the win in relief for Gainesville, pitching 2 2/3 innings and striking out two. Griffith earned the save, also striking out two.

The victory came a week after Gainesville's last region contest, as the Red Elephants spent most of last week competing in the National High School Invitational Tournament in North Carolina.

The Red Elephants will play host to Winder on Wednesday at Ivey-Watson Field.
