ATLANTA (AP) A national anti-abortion rights group has cut ties with Georgia Right to Life and named the Georgia Life Alliance as its new state affiliate.

In a statement Saturday, National Right to Life President Carol Tobias said the group's decision to end its relationship with Georgia Right to Life stemmed from the organization pressuring federal lawmakers to vote against bills backed by the parent group.

National Right to Life has an affiliate in each state. State affiliates send their directors to the organization's national board.

In a statement, Georgia Right to Life President Dan Becker called the groups' separation a tragedy and said the organizations have virtually identical standpoints on public policy. Georgia Right to Life opposes creating exceptions to state law to allow abortions in cases of rape and incest
