Tennis: Lady War Eagles edge out Johnson

The Chestatee girls tennis team improved to 7-4 (4-4 in Region 8-AAAA) with a 3-2 victory over Johnson on Thursday in Gainesville.

The Lady War Eagles' No. 2 doubles team of Carolina Gijon and Melanie Smith won the last six games of their match with Johnson's Aly Groover and Julia Kay Mallory taking a 6-4, 7-5 win to secure the team victory. Chestatee's Lily Kiang won at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Johnson's Ashley Hogan, and the Lady War Eagles No. 1 doubles team of Haley King and Grace Brown swept past the Lady Knights' Marissa Rodriquez and Anslie Bass, 6-1, 6-2. Johnson got wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles as Zdena Janderova defeated Fernanda Arcaraz 6-3, 6-3 and the Lady Knight's Karina Rivera beat Adasery Osorno 6-2, 6-4.

Chestatee travels to face North Hall on Monday.
