GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville-Hall County Meals on Wheels Program is celebrating Community Champions Week as a part of its March for Meals campaign.

Hall County Commission Chairman Dick Mecum, County Commissioner Jeff Stowe, Gainesville Mayor Danny Dunagan and Gainesville Councilman Sam Couvillon are among the local public officials participating in the event to show their support for the homebound and hungry seniors.

"We are excited about having Mayor Dunagan, Councilmember Couvillon, Chairman Mecum, and Commissioner Stowe participate in our March for Meals Community Champions week," said Meals on Wheels Coordinator Milon Christman. "Because of the unique partnership between the City of Gainesville and Hall County governments we have one of the best nutrition programs in the state."

The Gainesville-Hall County Meals on Wheels Program serves hot lunches and warm smiles to over 300 households each weekday. More than 200 volunteers donate their time and wheels to deliver meals to fragile adults who need an extra degree of care in their older years. To sign up as a volunteer contact Stepheine Hood at 770.503.3338.

Mayor Dunagan and Couvillon were to deliver meals at 11:00 Wednesday morning. Mecum and Stowe are to deliver meals at 11:00 Thursday.
