DANIELSVILLE -- The Chestatee girls soccer team took it to the limits Tuesday evening, overcoming a 1-0 deficit in regulation before prevailing in a penalty shootout over Madison County in Danielsville.

Chelsea Beard slipped a shot through the Chestatee defense to take a Lady Red Raider lead, 1-0, with 15 minutes remaining in the first half.

The War Eagles answered early in the 2nd period, as Anna Abercrombie finished off Sadie Foote's corner kick to tie the game in the 33rd minute.

Yet despite high pressure from Chestatee, the Lady War Eagles (8-4, 5-2 Region 8-AAAA) were unable to find the go-ahead goal.

The game remained deadlocked through two overtime periods, sending the region contest in a shootout -- where the two teams went through 10 attempts apiece. With the score tied at 7-7, and into the sixth sudden death kick, Madison County failed to convert, opening the door for Merrie Barnett -- who converted her shot in the first round. Barnett proved decisive, nailing the winning penalty.

Jessi Stephens, Megan Dew, Bailey Hooper, Alyssa Yarck, Allison Whidden, and Nina Burgess also converted penalties for Chestatee.

Chestatee travels to Johnson on Friday evening.
