Tennis: Chestatee splits with Stephens County

TOCCOA -- The Chestatee girls tennis team avenged a loss to Stephens County last week with 3-2 win over the Lady Indians Tuesday.

Fernanda Arcaraz, playing at No. 2 singles, flipped the team score this week by beating Stephens County's Sarah Whitworth 6-4, 6-3 after losing to her in three sets last week. The Lady War Eagles' Haley King and Grace Brown won 6-3, 6-1 over Katie Akridge and Sydney Caudell keeping the No. 1 doubles team undefeated at 10-0 on the season.

Then, with the teams tied at 2 points each, Carolina Gijon and Tyler Bennett secured the victory for Chestatee at No. 2 doubles with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Stephens County's Kasey Crunkleton and Lauren Swenson.

The Lady War Eagles improved to 6-4 overall, 3-4 in Region 8-AAAA play with the victory.

In the boys match, Chestatee fell 4-1 to the Indians. The War Eagles' doubles team of Logan Gruenenfelder and Ethan Kapiloff avoided the team sweep with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Stephens County's Will Byrd and Seth Raney.

The Chestatee boys dropped to 6-4 overall, 3-4 in Region 8-AAAA play with the loss.

Thursday night Chestatee plays Johnson with the girls playing host to the Lady Knights and the boys traveling to Oakwood.
