DAHLONEGA - The auction committee for Dahlonega's Bear on the Square Mountain Festival has begun the process of collecting items for this year's Live and Silent Country Auction, set for April 25, the Friday night just prior to the yearly event's opening.

Sherry Moser, co-chair of the auction, said that this year's auction focus will be handmade items.

"In observance of our festival's 18th year, we felt that the focus on handmade items fits right in with the mission of our event, which is to celebrate the music, traditional craft and folkways of the Southern Appalachians. However, while this year's focus is handmade, we welcome all donations," she pointed out.

Contributing businesses and individuals are asked to include a brief description of their item and its approximate retail value, and they will receive a receipt for tax purposes. As items are being collected they are being posted to an online auction catalog which can be accessed at www.bearonthesquare.org.

This year's Bear on the Square will take place the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, in and around Dahlonega's Historic Public Square.

More details, as well as regular updates, about the 2014 Bear on the Square Mountain Festival, including information about music performances, the juried artists marketplace, workshops, other activities, and sponsors, can be found on the festival website.
