JHS students 1st in Ga. to receive Industry Certification in Flexography

GAINESVILLE - Johnson High School students Dung Tran, Son Bui, Melinda Smith and TJ Farley were recognized at this year's Phoenix Challenge International Flexographic Competition in Charlotte, N.C.

In addition, Tran and Farley became the first students in Georgia to receive a Level 1 Flexo Certification awarded by the Flexo Technical Association, FTA. Farley and Smith placed second in the Ink Comparison/Matching Competition. Caleb Coggins won the T-Shirt Design Competition.

Johnson is the only high school in Georgia that offers a fully industry- sponsored Flexography Training Program. Students receive training in the classroom while completing an online training program that is
administered and sponsored by the FTA. Zebra Technologies of Oakwood also supports the program through financial, technical, and mentoring opportunities.

The Phoenix Challenge Foundation is an organization of devoted industry professionals, companies and colleges who assist and mentor young people in exploring the exciting career opportunities offered in the
Flexographic Printing Industry. Each year, the Phoenix Challenge Foundation host the annual International High School Flexographic Skills Competition for students in North America who are currently studying Flexography.
