School Superintendent Will Schofield told board members at their Monday afternoon meeting that he wants to hire between 15 and 20 new teachers for the 2015-15 school year.
"I have an annual personnel conference with all of our principals [and] we look at all of our class sizes, we look at all of our ratios," said Schofield. [The positions] spread out pretty well for elementary, middle and high."
Schofield said that this year is the first time in five years that the county has seen some relief financially from the state, and he said not only does that mean some help for overcrowded classrooms, but also it means a full school schedule for the upcoming year.
"We're excited about - number one - that we're going to have 180 days of school for boys and girls next year and 190 contract days for teachers," said Schofield.
"Right after that, this board has made it clear that some of our class sizes that have grown that we'll be putting about 15 to 20 additional teachers into classrooms next year."
Schofield said the full calendar and the additional teachers will mean about $5 million for the upcoming budget, money he says will be well spent to keep the Hall County District viable.
