Soccer: Gainesville boys and girls cruise past Winder to stay undefeated in 8-AAAAA

GAINESVILLE -- The Gainesville boys and girls soccer teams swept to Region 8-AAAAA victories over Winder-Barrow on Friday at City Park.

The Gainesville boys dominated the Bulldoggs 7-0 on the back of two hat tricks -- one each from Roberto Nunez and Diego Porras. Meanwhile, Christian Escalerea produced a goal and an assist for the Red Elephants (9-1-1, 5-0 Region 8-AAAAA).

Ricardo Gomez also had two assists, and Cesar Regaldo added one assist.

Gage Turner and Jiovani Ortiz combined for the shutout in goal.

In the opening game of the night, the Gainesville girls defeated Winder 4-1.

Alyssa Turner led the Lady Red Elephants (10-0-1, 5-0) with two goals and an assist. Anna Youmans and Jazmin Penado also each scored once.

Margaret Carpenter and Liz Fischer also each added assists.

Gainesville soccer plays host to Forsyth Central on Tuesday at City Park, girls at 5:30 p.m. and boys at 7:30 p.m.
