DAHLONEGA - While tickets have sold out for the University of North Georgia's second annual Scholarship Ball, donations for the university's scholarship funds still are being sought.

"We are overwhelmed by the generous support of scholarships that we have received from the communities UNG serves, but we still are soliciting funds," said Dr. Andrew Leavitt, vice president for institutional advancement. "We have a need for scholarships without specific criteria attached, so that our admissions officers can offer scholarships, both merit- and need-based, to entering students in the associate and baccalaureate programs on all four campuses."

Northern Trust and Citizens Bank are among the dozens supporting the annual fundraising efforts with sponsorships.

"Northern Trust has had a long and vested interest in supporting higher education, since this is one of the vital vehicles by which we cultivate our young people to be future leaders in business, finance, medicine, education and the arts," said Shane Coldren, senior vice president of Foundation & Institutional Advisors. "Companies and organizations working together create opportunities; elevate the people of our communities; and contribute to a stable economic environment."

Timothy M. Perry, president and CEO of Citizens Bank of Forsyth County, added his institution's support of the university.

"The Citizens Bank of Forsyth County is honored to support the UNG Scholarship Ball. We believe the university is an asset to Cumming and Forsyth County and that an investment in student scholarships will produce unlimited dividends in the future," Perry.

Also during the March 28 ball, UNG President Bonita Jacobs will present Cumming Mayor H. Ford Gravitt with the Presidential Leadership Award for his support of the university and his work to bring higher education to the Forsyth County community. Gravitt has been mayor of Cumming since 1970 and, for almost 20 years, led Cumming and Forsyth County officials and community members in efforts to bring higher education to the area.

"I am deeply honored and humbled to be given this award," Gravitt said. "It seems like a lifetime that we've been working to get higher education here in Cumming. It's only one building right now, but it's a big start for Cumming and Forsyth County. We certainly want to be able to provide every opportunity for Cumming and Forsyth County students to further their education."

Donations to UNG's scholarship funds can be made by contacting Jeff Boggan via email at [email protected] or by calling 678-717-3750.
