Collins announces competition opportunities for high school students

GAINESVILLE - Congressman Doug Collins (GA-09) Friday announced two competition opportunities that are currently underway for high school students in the 9th Congressional District.<br /> <br /> ***Congressional Art Competition<br /> <br /> The Congressional Art Competition is open to public, private, and home-educated high school students. The winning piece will be displayed in the collection of 2014 winners at the U.S. Capitol, and the artist will have the opportunity to present their piece to Collins.<br /> <br /> Guidelines for artwork:<br /> <br /> · Artwork must be original and in any of the following mediums:<br /> -- Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.<br /> -- Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal<br /> -- Collages: must be two dimensional<br /> -- Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums (i.e. pencil, ink, watercolor, etc)<br /> -- Computer-generated art<br /> -- Photographs<br /> <br /> · Pieces should be no larger than 28"x28"x4" (including frame) and should not exceed 15 pounds in weight<br /> <br /> · Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws. Note: entries copied from an existing photo or image that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of competition rules and will not be accepted.<br /> <br /> Submissions should be delivered to Congressman Collins' Gainesville Office by 5:00 p.m. on May 5.<br /> <br /> Students and art teachers may learn more by visiting http://dougcollins.house.gov/art-competition and by contacting Tena Riley in Congressman Collins' Gainesville office at 770-297-3388.<br /> <br /> <br /> ***House App Challenge<br /> <br /> This year marks the first annual Congressional Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Academic Competition, the "House App Contest." This new competition is designed to engage student's creativity and encourage their participation in STEM education fields. <br /> <br /> The "House App Challenge" is open to all high school students in the Ninth District. Established by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2013, this competition is a nationwide event that allows high school students from across the country to compete by creating and exhibiting their software application, or "app," for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice. <br /> <br /> Students entering the competition must submit their app's source code online during the Competition Submission Period between by 11:59 PM Eastern Daylight Time on APRIL 30TH, 2014, as well as provide a YouTube or VIMEO video demo explaining their app and what they learned through this competition process.<br /> <br /> Students and teachers may learn more by visiting http://dougcollins.house.gov/stem-competition and by calling Darren Kendall in Congressman Collins' Gainesville office at 770-297-3388.<br />
