In a release received from Superintendent of Schools Dr. April Howard, the lay offs are the result of funding decreases and significant increases in employer paid health benefits and retirement costs.
Meeting current payrolls and maintaining a full calendar year, the release said, would lead to a projected deficit of $4.6 million in the coming school year.
