A statement from League President Julia Greene said the non-profit women's group will use the building for office space. The statement said the approximately 10,000 square foot building will give the League the room it needs as it exapnds community outreach programs.
"We are ecstatic about the possibility of continuing the Elks' tradition of service to our community here on Riverside Drive," said Greene.
"Several generations of Gainesville families have fond memories of fellowship together here at the corner of Riverside Drive and Virginia Avenue and it is our intention to continue to provide a home for future generations to enjoy. Quite simply, we want to be a good neighbor."
The transaction between the League and Elks Lodge #1126 is scheduled to be complete in May.
