GAINESVILLE - After a decade-long absence, the Brenau Gala returns March 29 to help celebrate the university's 135th anniversary and vision for its future, dedicate the renovations for a new physical therapy doctoral program and launch a New York-themed art gallery at the Brenau Downtown Center.

Brenau President Ed Schrader says the event promises to be a memorable occasion.

"It has been far too long since we have had a celebration of this magnitude at Brenau. But with what the university has become since our last Gala, what Brenau has stood for in this community for 135 years and what it will mean to the future certainly is something worth celebrating."

The main Gala theme, "The Art & Science of Brenau," recognizes the university for its national leadership in two distinct areas: its major educational programs in allied health care and its significant collections of fine art.
The program celebrates the "science" component by showcasing the completed renovations at the Downtown Center, which will be the home of Brenau's new doctorate in physical therapy program. The space also has room for expansion into other health care profession disciplines.

The "art" portion of the program revolves around the opening of the new "Manhattan Gallery" that will operate year-round at the Downtown Center with specially curated work from the university's permanent art collection as well as newly acquired works from such artists as Andy Warhol and art from the famed Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection.

Those pieces include a wide selection of artists and genres with one common thread: a connection to the New York art world that over the years has so generously contributed to the Brenau permanent collection. There will also be an art auction of prints, paintings and other pieces from the permanent collection
