ROME - Authorities in northwestern Georgia say five women accused of trying to smuggle drugs to county jail inmates have been arrested.

Floyd County Jail Administrator Maj. Bob Sapp says the women were arrested in two separate incidents on Sunday within about an hour of each other.

Authorities say the women are accused of trying to smuggle suspected crack cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana and tobacco into the facility using dental hygiene products. Sapp says the women tried altering the packaging of some of the products.

The women are charged with coming behind guard lines to deliver controlled substances to inmates, a felony offense. Authorities say the women are also facing drug charges.
