GBI releases name of man killed in officer involved shooting

CUMMING - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Monday afternoon released the name of the man killed in an overnight standoff with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

According to GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang, 52-year-old Kenny Roger Drake was shot and killed during the incident at 7975 Nicholson Road.

Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper said the incident happened just after midnight Monday morning.

"When deputies got there, the man inside the house threatened one of my deputies with a firearm, and the deputy shot the man that was threatening him. That man is now dead," Piper said.

None of the deputies was hurt.

"The deputy involved in the shooting is on administrative leave, as well as two other deputies that were inside the house with him," Piper said.

Authorities have not released any further details in the case.
